Farmers Market on break after this week for holidays
The Rockmart Farmers Market will begin a three-week break on Thursday.
The Rockmart Farmers Market will be on a threeweek winter break beginning after this Thursday’s holiday market and returning in mid-January, but executive director Shonna Kirkpatrick has big plans the weekly event before and after the holiday season ends.
Before the break, the market photo contest ensured farm- and photolovers alike got to share what they loved about the farmers market.
Entrants were due Dec. 18, and entrants were asked to share a photo capturing the spirit of the Rockmart Farmers Market. While the winner has yet to be decided, the judges will look at quality and originality.
Winners will receive a T-shirt and a bag of veggies, and their photo will be added to the market website.
“Here at the Rockmart Farmers Market, we love pictures,” Kirkpatrick said. “The photo must be either taken at the market, at a cooking class, or of a meal cooked with items from the farmers market.”
Upon return, the market will continue to be yearround and last 2-6 p.m. every Thursday, but the holiday vendors won’t return until the next Winter. Craft makers and artisans recently set up shop but were promised a spot to sell during December only.
What will make a return, however, are the cooking classes. Kirkpatrick plans to host a Kids Cooking Series beginning in January. Each class costs $5.50. Registration can be found at www.rockmartfarmersmarket.com/.
“The class will focus on using the winter harvest to prepare delightful warm winter recipes,” Kirkpatrick said.
