2 badly in­jured in wreck on Rock­mart High­way

Floyd County po­lice re­ported two men were taken to Floyd Med­i­cal Cen­ter fol­low­ing a head on wreck on the Rock­mart High­way early morn­ing in­ci­dent that blocked traf­fic for those com­ing to and from Polk County.

Ac­cord­ing t o Floyd County Po­lice re­ports:

A 2001 BMW driven by Lester Stans­berry, 40, of Rome, was south­bound on Ga. 101 on the morn­ing of Dec. 20 when he crossed the cen­ter line and struck a north­bound 2013 Toy­ota driven by Lee Smith, 62, of Rome.

Both driv­ers were taken to Floyd Med­i­cal Cen­ter where a hos­pi­tal spokesman said both were in crit­i­cal con­di­tion last week af­ter the col­li­sion.

Floyd County po­lice spokesman Jerome Poole said of­fi­cers have not been able to de­ter­mine what may have caused Stans­berry to cross over the cen­ter line a few min­utes af­ter 7 a.m.

The wreck tied up traf­fic near Pleas­ant Val­ley Road in­ter­sec­tion for close to an hour.
