McCrae out on bond following felony arrest in PSD lockdown

A Rockmart teen who was accused last week of sending a threatening post over social media that later caused Polk School District to go on lockdown is out on bond.

17-year-old Zoriah Erin McCrae was released on a $ 5,000 property bond and several other conditions by Superior Court Judge Michael Murphy in a order signed on March 6.

Additionally, the filing requires her to remain under house arrest with an ankle monitor, only able to leave for attendance at church or other court authorized reasons. McCrae is also barred from accessing the internet or social media on electronic devices, and is barred from entering Polk School District property unless authorized by the district.

The court also ordered that she was barred from any access to any firearms.

McCrae remains charged with only two counts of felony terroristic threats and acts for now according to Rockmart Police Chief Keith Sorrells.

He said his department had discussed filing additional charges against McCrae for sending a threatening message to a student through Snapchat that prompted the entire Polk School District to go into lockdown on March 1 for several hours while investigators tracked down the message and sender.

Sorrells added that as far as he knew, no reason for why McCrae sent the message had been provided.

He did however encourage anyone who receives threats against local schools to report them immediately to authorities. “If you’re at school and receive a threat, you need to tell a teacher or administrator immediately,” he said. “If you’re at home and get a message like that, you need to call law enforcement.”

Sorrells said that threats against schools will be taken seriously. He added that with four grandchildren and his daughter as students and faculty in Polk School District, the safety of the campuses become of personal concern to him and everyone who has a child attending schools, or knows a teacher in the classrooms.

“Ultimately we’re all concerned about t he safety of our children,” he said.
