WELSHFest is this weekend

WELSHfest Heritage Days is coming up in a few more day, with a whole slew of events and fun planned in for the 2018 WELSHfest in downtown Rockmart.

This weekend, t he community is invited to come out and participat­e in a day to show off Welsh pride, with music and hymn singing, welly wanging, bike rides, a kilt contest, medieval activities, Children’s events, a tearoom and much more.

On Friday night, Van Wert Church will host a hymn singing as part of the event, followed on Saturday of tours of the historic church as well.

The even will include 58 vendors participat­ing and will be held in the downtown Rockmart area. Food services included in the lineup are Timbo’s Smokehouse, Georgia Concession Lady, Sweet Tooth Creations, Susan Davis’ pork rinds, boiled peanuts, cotton candy, our local vendors of the Farmer’s Market, Girl Scouts Cookies, Lion’s Club with Funnel Cakes, Nana’s Cooking with Fish and Chips, Desserts and Fried Chicken.

The annual event seeks to celebrate Welsh heritage in Rockmart, where the first settlers built the earliest log structure in 1846 on the north side of the present day cemetery at Van Wert Church in what was then Paulding County, now Polk County.

WELSHfest is organized as a fundraiser to provide financial support for The Rockmart History Museum and restoratio­n and preservati­on of present day Van Wert Church.
