Car­o­line routs Fred­er­ick, stays alive in tour­ney

RIS­ING SUN — Open­ing with a 6-0 lead, the Dis­trict 6 champ Car­o­line Ju­nior League base­ball all-stars rolled to a 14-2, five-in­ning rout of Dis­trict 2 ti­tleist Fred­er­ick Na­tional on Wed­nes­day night in the state tour­na­ment.

P.J. Gun­ther, who pitched 2 2/3 innings and al­lowed one hit while strik­ing out three, got the win in re­lief of Chris Curler, who threw 1 1/3 score­less innings as the team’s starter. Zack Stan­ley pitched a score­less fifth to end the con­test and keep Car­o­line (6-2) alive in the elim­i­na­tion bracket.

Chad Wil­loughby dou­bled, scored twice, and drove in two runs for Car­o­line; team­mates Jay­den Watkins, Nate Haschen, Ma­son Pate, Hunter Wolfe, and Adam Boyles each had a hit and an RBI. J.B. Brown sin­gled, scored a run, and notched two RBIs; Jeremy Bed­ford walked twice and drove in one run, and Tucker Brown added a sin­gle to the Car­o­line at­tack.

Car­o­line out­hit Fred­er­ick 10-1 in the win.

Car­o­line, which lost in ex­tra innings Sun­day to tour­na­ment host Ris­ing Run, played an­other elim­i­na­tion game, against Dis­trict 1, Thurs­day evening; re­sults were not known at press time.
