Cambridge man, 37, dies in motorcycle accident
TRAPPE — A Cambridge man died Thursday evening in a motorcycle accident on U.S. Route 50 near the Senator Frederick C. Malkus Jr. Memorial Bridge.
Derrick Javon Brown, 37, was pronounced dead at the scene near the westbound lane of U. S. Route 50 at the northern end of the bridge. The accident occurred at 6:57 p.m. Thursday, July 27.
Witnesses told police they saw a motorcycle traveling west at what appeared to be going at a very high rate of speed.
They told police that as traffic began to slow, the driver of the motorcycle began to pass cars on the right-hand shoulder and right-hand acceleration lanes.
According to witnesses, the motorcycle left the roadway
and crashed, and the driver was ejected.
On Thursday evening, traffic was shut down or down to one lane as police investigators reconstructed the accident.
According to the Maryland State Police report, alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the crash.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and no other injuries were reported.
Brown was driving a 2001 Kawasaki motorcycle and was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, according to the report.
