Stephen John Shook
COLUMBIA - Stephen John Shook, 70, of Columbia passed away Sunday, October 21 after a long battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Born October 3, 1948 in East Bangor, Pennsylvania to the late Lillian and Merlin Shook, he is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Sue, sons Stephen Shook Jr of Columbia, Scott Shook (Elizabeth) of Elgin, Douglas Shook (Kim) of Cartersville, Georgia and Grandsons Alex, Riley and Harrison.
Known as Shooky to friends and family, he was a Marine, receiving the Purple Heart for being wounded in combat in Viet Nam. In 1972 he began his career with Mack Trucks in Allentown, PA then moving with the company to Columbia, SC in 1987. After a 32 year career at Mack Trucks he retired in 2004. Shooky also served with the Pennsylvania and South Carolina Army National Guard for many years. Retirement couldn’t hold him for long and he began his second career working for Lowe’s Home Improvement part time until his diagnosis in 2017.
The family would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Wells, Katie, Jackie and Tess and the entire staff of Lexington Oncology for their devoted care and compassion.
A memorial service will held Monday, November 12 at 9:30am at Fort Jackson National Cemetary with full military honors.
