COLUMBIA - Stephen John Shook, 70, of Columbia passed away Sun­day, Oc­to­ber 21 af­ter a long bat­tle with Pan­cre­atic Can­cer. Born Oc­to­ber 3, 1948 in East Ban­gor, Penn­syl­va­nia to the late Lil­lian and Mer­lin Shook, he is sur­vived by his lov­ing wife of 48 years Sue, sons Stephen Shook Jr of Columbia, Scott Shook (Eliz­a­beth) of El­gin, Dou­glas Shook (Kim) of Cartersville, Ge­or­gia and Grand­sons Alex, Ri­ley and Har­ri­son.

Known as Shooky to friends and fam­ily, he was a Ma­rine, re­ceiv­ing the Pur­ple Heart for be­ing wounded in com­bat in Viet Nam. In 1972 he be­gan his ca­reer with Mack Trucks in Al­len­town, PA then mov­ing with the com­pany to Columbia, SC in 1987. Af­ter a 32 year ca­reer at Mack Trucks he re­tired in 2004. Shooky also served with the Penn­syl­va­nia and South Carolina Army Na­tional Guard for many years. Re­tire­ment couldn’t hold him for long and he be­gan his se­cond ca­reer work­ing for Lowe’s Home Im­prove­ment part time un­til his di­ag­no­sis in 2017.

The fam­ily would like to ex­tend its heart­felt grat­i­tude to Dr. Wells, Katie, Jackie and Tess and the en­tire staff of Lex­ing­ton On­col­ogy for their de­voted care and com­pas­sion.

A me­mo­rial ser­vice will held Mon­day, Novem­ber 12 at 9:30am at Fort Jack­son Na­tional Cemetary with full mil­i­tary honors.
