Man ar­rested for ab­scond­ing with am­bu­lance in Taos

Taos Po­lice ar­rested a man Fri­day night (Aug. 24) af­ter he al­legedly stole an am­bu­lance out­side of Holy Cross Hospi­tal and drove it to a cou­ple of lo­cal busi­nesses.

Po­lice say James Michael Cox, 28, took the am­bu­lance truck from out­side of the emer­gency room en­trance at Holy Cross Hospi­tal about 9:30 p.m. Fri­day. Cox had been driven by am­bu­lance to the hospi­tal ear­lier in the evening from Taos Mesa Brew­ery, ac­cord­ing to po­lice, though the na­ture of his med­i­cal con­di­tion re­quir­ing emer­gency trans­port is un­known at this time.

Cox was charged with two counts of re­sist­ing, both mis­de­meanors, and one count of un­law­ful tak­ing of a mo­tor ve­hi­cle, a fourth-de­gree felony. A pre­lim­i­nary ex­am­i­na­tion has been sched­uled in the case Sept. 12 be­fore Taos Mag­is­trate Judge Jef­frey Shan­non.
