Nine fugi­tives ar­rested by Taos County Sher­iff ’s Of­fice, Pa­role Of­fice

Nine peo­ple were ar­rested Wed­nes­day (Aug. 22) in a fugi­tive roundup by the Taos County Sher­riff ’s Of­fice and the Adult Pro­ba­tion and Pa­role Of­fice.

Among those ar­rested in the all-day op­er­a­tion were Juan Te­jada, 30; Manuel Car­rillo-Me­d­ina, 46; Ed­mundo Rios, 26; Derrick Guz­man, 32; Crys­tal Martinez, 20; John Mon­toya,

61; San­tana Cis­neros, 20; Michael Romero, 32; and

25-year-old Elayne Me­d­ina, ac­cord­ing to a news re­lease from the sher­iff’s of­fice.

When of­fi­cers took Me­d­ina and Romero into cus­tody at a res­i­dence on Straight Ar­row Road, they lo­cated firearms. Of­fi­cers ob­tained a search war­rant for ad­di­tional weapons and drugs.

Af­ter serv­ing the search war­rant Wed­nes­day evening, of­fi­cers found six firearms as well as sus­pected drugs com­monly known as magic mush­rooms at the house. “Be­cause one of the firearms was a loaded sawed-off shot­gun the ATF (fed­eral Bureau of Al­co­hol, Tobacco, Firearms and Ex­plo­sives) has been con­tacted and may take ad­di­tional charges,” ac­cord­ing to a state­ment from the Taos County Sher­iff’s Of­fice.

“Op­er­a­tions like this usu­ally round up sev­eral fugi­tive/ab­scon­ders, and we are glad to work with the APPO of­fice to keep our com­mu­nity safer,” said Sher­iff Jerry Ho­grefe in a state­ment.
