Steer escapes NFO pasture, on the lam
A steer that a local rancher had traded with a nonprofit veterans organization in exchange for leasing their pasture in Taos is on the lam.
Don Peters, one of the founders of Not Forgotten Outreach, said the steer became lonely after its compadres were taken off the pasture by the rancher. It broke out of the pasture, at Corral No. 5, also known as the Mitchell pasture near Paseo del Pueblo and Camino de la Placita on Tuesday afternoon. It was last seen in the vicinity of Ranchitos and Río Pueblo. “The steer was our payment,” said Peters, who was out Wednesday afternoon still searching for the animal.
The steer is black, with a JA brand on its right shoulder and a green tag in its left ear. If located, call Not Forgotten Outreach at (575) 224-1503.
