Thomas Russo of McLean, Va.
Thomas Joseph Russo, 60, of McLean, Va., passed away after a lengthy illness on Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, surrounded by his family.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife ,Stephanie; children Katie, wife of Jason Burkert, Dan Russo, Annie, wife of CJ Pavia and Joe Russo; and grandson, Levi Thomas Burkert. He is also survived by brothers Jack Russo and wife Dale of Collegeville and Ken (Rudy) Russo and wife Theresa of Pottstown; sisters Marilyn Gallo and husband Frank of Blue Bell and Janice Rudisill and husband Jamie of West Chester; and a large, loving extended family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Ann (Calabrese) Russo of Norristown.
Formerly of Norristown, Tom was born Feb. 19, 1953, and attended Visitation B.V.M. grade school, where he played CYO sports. A standout basketball player at La Salle College High School, where he was a three year starter and co-captain his senior year, Tom went on to Georgetown University and graduated with a B.S. in accounting in 1975. He owned Chadwicks Restaurants in Georgetown and Old Town Alexandria, Va., and as a Friend of Georgetown for 40 years, he was named the 2013 Georgetown Businessman of the Year.
Tom coached youth baseball and basketball for more than 30 years in Annandale and McLean, Va. He helped to raise hundreds of thousands for DC charities as a member of the Bartenders’ Ball Foundation, serving as chair in 1987. Tom was a familiar face at St. John’s Academy in McLean, Va., for 17 years while his children attended the school and was honored, along with his wife Stephanie, as the St. John’s Academy inaugural People of the Year in 2004.
Funeral services will be held in McLean, Va.
