Thomas Joseph Russo, 60, of McLean, Va., passed away af­ter a lengthy ill­ness on Fri­day, Jan. 24, 2014, sur­rounded by his fam­ily.

Tom is sur­vived by his beloved wife ,Stephanie; chil­dren Katie, wife of Ja­son Burk­ert, Dan Russo, An­nie, wife of CJ Pavia and Joe Russo; and grand­son, Levi Thomas Burk­ert. He is also sur­vived by brothers Jack Russo and wife Dale of Col­legeville and Ken (Rudy) Russo and wife Theresa of Pottstown; sis­ters Mar­i­lyn Gallo and hus­band Frank of Blue Bell and Jan­ice Ru­d­is­ill and hus­band Jamie of West Chester; and a large, lov­ing ex­tended fam­ily.

He is pre­ceded in death by his par­ents, Joseph and Ann (Cal­abrese) Russo of Nor­ris­town.

For­merly of Nor­ris­town, Tom was born Feb. 19, 1953, and at­tended Visi­ta­tion B.V.M. grade school, where he played CYO sports. A stand­out bas­ket­ball player at La Salle Col­lege High School, where he was a three year starter and co-cap­tain his se­nior year, Tom went on to Ge­orge­town Univer­sity and grad­u­ated with a B.S. in ac­count­ing in 1975. He owned Chad­wicks Restau­rants in Ge­orge­town and Old Town Alexan­dria, Va., and as a Friend of Ge­orge­town for 40 years, he was named the 2013 Ge­orge­town Busi­ness­man of the Year.

Tom coached youth base­ball and bas­ket­ball for more than 30 years in An­nan­dale and McLean, Va. He helped to raise hun­dreds of thou­sands for DC char­i­ties as a mem­ber of the Bar­tenders’ Ball Foun­da­tion, serv­ing as chair in 1987. Tom was a fa­mil­iar face at St. John’s Academy in McLean, Va., for 17 years while his chil­dren at­tended the school and was hon­ored, along with his wife Stephanie, as the St. John’s Academy in­au­gu­ral Peo­ple of the Year in 2004.

Fu­neral ser­vices will be held in McLean, Va.
