Water main breaks

WEST NORRITON – Police and utility workers were called to the scene of a water main break on West Main Street near Center Avenue Monday.

According to Terry Maenza, American Water of Pennsylvania’s director of communications and external affairs, an 8-inch cast iron pipe burst around 6 p.m.

The break required a length of pipe to be capped with valves while repairs were made, causing a temporary suspension of water service for 25 customers said Maenza.

Utility lines were marked and PennDOT crews were on hand to salt icy buildup emanating from the leak.

The ruptured line was under the sidewalk so disruption to traffic during repairs was minimal, and water service was restored by 2:30 a.m., Maenza said.
