Golden Panthers shoot down Crusaders
LANSDALE — Shortly before halftime, Pope John Paul II began a 19-0 run that stretched all the way into the third quarter, and the Golden Panthers would not trail again in earning a 70-65 victory over Lansdale Catholic in a non-league contest Thursday night at LC.
The Crusaders could not duplicate their hot start, as they built a 25-15 lead in the second quarter. LC wasn’t able to take advantage of a big night from the outside by Kyle Pavlik, who hit five threes in a 15-point performance.
Pope John Paul II had some outside shooting of its own, as the Golden Panthers (10-6) hit a dozen threes, including four by James Beming. Beming led the visitors with 19 points as he helped them go up by double digits midway through the fourth.
LC got within six a couple times late, but a pair of free throws by Nikky Cianciulli stretched the margin to 66-59 with 35 seconds to go, putting it away for Pope John Paul II.
