The public is invited to a groundbreaking ceremony for a rain garden at a park in the 300 block of Carnation Drive.

The event is scheduled for Friday at 3 p.m. at the park. Borough and state elected officials are expected to attend. Once completed, the rain garden will slow, filter and purify a significant portion of stormwater running through Floral Park. The garden also includes a walking trail and educational placards with information on plants and tree species in the area.

The rain garden will be funded via a grant from the state Department of Environmental Protection, borough Manager Virginia Kehoe said. The garden is expected to be completed by mid-October, though other work, like cleanup and adding the placards, will be completed later, Kehoe said.
