Fires damage two city homes

The Times-Tribune - - Local / Nation -

Fires ripped through homes on Olive Street and Mineral Avenue Saturday evening.

About 5:15 p.m., city firefighters responded to a building on fire at 105 Olive St., and while fighting the first fire, firefighters noticed smoke coming from an adjacent property at 602 Mineral Ave., Acting Assistant Chief Al Taylor said. Neither property was occupied when the fires broke out.

Firefighters had the fires under control within 20 to 30 minutes, he said. Both properties sustained fire, water and smoke damage.

Neighbors said the properties had been condemned, but Taylor could not confirm the claims.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and under investigation, he said. — FRANK WILKES LESNEFSKY
