Ron­ald Paul Au­gusti­tus, 85, died sud­denly Sept. 4, 2017, at his res­i­dence at Park­place in Den­ver, Colo. Ron was the son of Peter Paul Au­gusti­tus and Dorothy Rid­dle of Tay­lor, Pa., where he was born. He went to high school at Rome Free Academy in Rome, N.Y., and then stud­ied at the Whar­ton School at the Univer­sity of Penn­syl­va­nia, grad­u­at­ing in 1955 with a Bach­e­lor of Science in eco­nom­ics. He was a mem­ber of Phi Delta Theta fra­ter­nity. Shortly af­ter grad­u­at­ing, Ron mar­ried Vir­ginia Regina Val­court of Puerto Rico. He served in the Navy from June 1955 through 1957. He lived in Puerto Rico while work­ing at Arthur An­der­son ac­count­ing firm un­til re­turn­ing to the main­land when he be­gan work­ing for IBM. He ini­tially lived in Vestal, N.Y., and af­ter be­ing trans­ferred by IBM to Har­ri­son, N.Y., he lived in Darien, Conn., for many years un­til re­tir­ing to Cape Cod. Ron moved to Den­ver in 2011 to be close to his fam­ily.

He has been de­scribed by some as a Re­nais­sance man, end­lessly cu­ri­ous about the world around him, which led to a life­long love of learn­ing. He en­joyed po­etry, cre­at­ing art, es­pe­cially with wa­ter­col­ors or pas­tels, and de­vel­oped a love of opera later in life. He was a car­ing per­son, quick to help those in his path, in­ter­ested in their lives and de­voted to his fam­ily. Ron was a beloved hus­band, fa­ther, grand­fa­ther, fa­ther-in­law, brother-in-law, un­cle and friend.

He is sur­vived by his daugh­ter, Vir­ginia Karen Au­gusti­tus, M.D., her hus­band, Ge­orge Louis Sfirri Jr. and grand­daugh­ter, Gra­ciella Sfirri. His wife, Vir­ginia Regina Val­court, pre­ceded him in death in 1997.

Funeral ser­vices will be held Satur­day, Sept. 23, 2017, at 10 a.m. from Kiesinger Funeral Ser­vices Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea, with ser­vices at 10:30 a.m. at the Brick United Methodist Church, 935 Foote Ave., Duryea, with Pastor Sharon Di­etz and Pastor Kent Moore­head of­fi­ci­at­ing. Friends may call Fri­day, Sept. 22, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. In­ter­ment will take place at a later date at the Marcy Ceme­tery, Duryea.
