John C. Pfeifer Jr., 85, of Lakeville died Aug. 24 at the Gino J. Merli Veter­ans Cen­ter, Scran­ton. He was pre­ceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Joy E. Blid­soe Pfeifer, in 2009.

Born Jan. 6, 1932, in Ne­wark, N.J., he was the son of the late John C. Sr. and Ethel Parks Pfeifer. A Navy vet­eran, he worked for the phone com­pany un­til his re­tire­ment. A long­time Wal­len­pau­pack Lake Es­tates res­i­dent, he was ac­tive with the WLE POA, in­clud­ing hav­ing been a for­mer mem­ber of the board of di­rec­tors, as well as a valu­able mem­ber of many ad­di­tional com­mit­tees. He was a mem­ber of Cross­roads Pen­te­costal Church in Elmhurst.

He is sur­vived by a daugh­ter, Tracy McHale and her hus­band, Tim, Lakeville; two grand­daugh­ters, Jamie McHale LoMonaco and her hus­band, John; and Megan McHale and her part­ner, Michael Gurry; a great-grand­daugh­ter, Gianna Grace LoMonaco; a great-grand­son, Vin­cenzo Ti­mothy LoMonaco; and a great-grand­son on the way.

He was also pre­ceded in death by his daugh­ter, Victoria Pfeifer, in 1993.

Call­ing hours will be Satur­day from 2 to 4 p.m. at Teeters’ East Chapel, 505 Church St., Haw­ley. The me­mo­rial ser­vice will fol­low at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. In­urn­ment will be in Fairview Me­mo­rial Park, Elmhurst, at a later date. Pri­vate cre­ma­tion was held at Lake Re­gion Cre­ma­tory in Lake Ariel.
