Jeffrey W. Smith, Ex­eter, died Satur­day at home af­ter a brief ill­ness.

Born in Scran­ton, he was the son of the late James and Ma­bel Green Smith and was ed­u­cated in Scran­ton schools. Nick­named “Up­pie” at a very young age, he will al­ways be re­mem­bered for his love of Elvis and his beloved dogs. He was a very gen­tle man with a heart of gold.

Sur­viv­ing are broth­ers, Robert Purdy and wife, Cathy; and Joseph Smith; sis­ters, Bertha Milewski and hus­band, Michael; and Bar­bara Sut­ton and hus­band, James; nu­mer­ous beloved nieces and neph­ews in­clud­ing his god­daugh­ter, El­iz­a­beth Gray.

He was also pre­ceded in death by broth­ers, John and James.

Funeral ser­vices will be Mon­day at 7 p.m. in the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Ave., Scran­ton, with the Rev. Gin­ger Dauben­hauser as of­fi­ciant. In­ter­ment will be pri­vate at the con­ve­nience of the fam­ily.

Fam­ily and friends may pay their re­spects Mon­day from 5 p.m. un­til ser­vice time. In lieu of flow­ers, me­mo­rial con­tri­bu­tions may be made to the Chil­dren’s Mir­a­cle Net­work at Geisinger, 100 N. Academy Ave., Danville, PA 17822-5020.
