Po­lice: At­tor­ney had mar­i­juana

A lo­cal at­tor­ney faces mis­de­meanor counts af­ter po­lice said he had mar­i­juana in his car.

Jamie A. Dench, 40, 500 Sec­ond St., Blakely, was charged via sum­mons Wed­nes­day with pos­ses­sion of a small amount of mar­i­juana and pos­ses­sion of drug para­pher­na­lia.

Scran­ton po­lice re­ceived a tip that Dench was pur­chas­ing mar­i­juana on Wash­burn Street on Sept. 28. Pa­trol­man Lawrence Spathelf fol­lowed him for a few blocks and pulled him over for fail­ing to use a turn sig­nal. Spathelf found a small bag­gie of mar­i­juana in the car af­ter Dench al­lowed him to search it, ac­cord­ing to charg­ing doc­u­ments.

Dench de­clined to com­ment on the charges. He had a law prac­tice in Scran­ton since 2004, fo­cus­ing on crim­i­nal law, per­sonal in­jury law and fam­ily law.

A pre­lim­i­nary hear­ing has been set for Nov. 15.
