Cubs out­last Na­tion­als to take Game 5 of NLDS

Ad­di­son Russell had two dou­bles and four RBIs as Chicago beat Wash­ing­ton, 9-8, in Game 5 of the NLDS on Thurs­day night to ad­vance to the NLCS, where they will face the Dodgers on Satur­day.

Michael Tay­lor hit a three-run home run to give the Na­tion­als a 4-1 ad­van­tage in the bot­tom of the sec­ond. Tay­lor hit the go-ahead grand slam for Wash­ing­ton in the eighth in­ning of Game 4 to lead the Na­tion­als to a vic­tory.

The Cubs bat­tled back in the top of the third as Russell logged an RBI on a ground­out and Will­son Con­tr­eras scored on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 4-3.

Russell gave the Cubs the lead with a two-run dou­ble in the top of the fifth. Chicago wasn’t done as Javier Baez struck out, but made it to first on a passed ball while Russell came in to score. Jay was hit by a pitch to score an­other run as the Cubs took a 7-4 lead.

Tay­lor added an RBI sin­gle in the bot­tom of the eighth to cut the Na­tion­als deficit to 9-8.
