The Times-Tribune - - Local Sports - — MARTY MYERS

2-1 Scranton Prep (12-0) vs. 4-1 Loyalsock Twp. (8-4) When: Friday, 7 p.m. Where: Williamsport Area High School. Noteworthy: The winner advances to the PIAA Class 3A quarterfinals against the winner of Thursday’s Middletown vs. Wyomissing game at Hersheypark Stadium.

Players to watch: Scranton Prep — Matt Gilmartin, RB. Has not only run for more than 1,300 yards, but is also averaging 19.9 yards as a receiver. Loyalsock — Sam Newton, CB. The speedster intercepted three passes in the District 4 final win over Danville.

Scouting Scranton Prep: Injuries can slow a team down, but they’ve actually proved to be a gift in disguise for the Cavaliers. Yes, they’re healthy, but those missed games by starters allowed reserves to step in, make valuable contributions and build depth. On defense, the Cavaliers have shutouts in half their games.

Scouting Loyalsock: Plenty of weapons on offense, with QB Connor Watkins throwing 29 TD passes and receiver Gerald Ross catching a school-record 14 of those. Watkins is also a dangerous runner and punt returner. TB Cole Cavanaugh has topped 1,000 yards for a second straight season for the Lancers. But can their defense (20 ppg) slow down Prep?
