John G . Marushock, 77, died peacefully Tuesday at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Plains Twp.
He was the son of the late George and Mary Smakula Marushock. He attended Throop High School, served in the United States Army, was a former part-time Throop police officer and was retired from Tobyhanna Army Depot.
Commonly referred to as “Big John” by his friends, he enjoyed playing cards and watching “Jeopardy!” He was a kind, generous and loving man who will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
He is survived by sisters, Mildred Nagy, Throop; Lucille, Throop; Evelyn Foster and husband, Robert, Newton, N.J.; Ilona Westington, Jermyn; and sister-inlaw, Connie Marushock, Throop; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, greatnephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, George; and brothers-in-law, Julius Nagy and Robert Westington; and a nephew, Edward Marushock
Friends may call Monday, Aug. 13, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the John F. Glinsky Funeral Home, 445 Sanderson St. Throop. Parastas service will be Monday at 6.
Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018, at 10 a.m. at SS. Cyril and Methodius Church in Olyphant. Those attending the Mass are asked to go directly to the church. Interment, St. Cyril’s Cemetery Peckville.
