Colonels use strong start to beat FDU

Wilkes Uni­ver­sity rode a big first half to a 31-16 win over Fdu-florham in a col­lege foot­ball game Fri­day in Madi­son, New Jer­sey.

The Colonels (4-3 over­all, 3-2 MAC) scored all their points in the first half, in­clud­ing outscor­ing Fdu­florham 17-0 in the sec­ond quar­ter to build a 31-7 half­time lead.

Jose Tab­ora threw four touch­down passes and fin­ished with 313 yards pass­ing. In the first quar­ter, Tab­ora hit Juan Salas-ne­gron for a 49-yard touch­down pass and Jeff Stee­ber on a 20-yard touch­down pass. Af­ter a Jag­ger Green touch­down pass for the Dev­ils, Tab­ora hit Stee­ber on a pair of touch­down passes in the sec­ond quar­ter. The two con­nected on a 24-yard scor­ing play with 9:59 left in the sec­ond quar­ter to cap a 12-play, 80-yard drive. Seven min­utes later, Stee­ber caught a 39-yard touch­down pass and then David Kut­teroff kicked a 31-yard field goal with six sec­onds left in the first half.

Stee­ber fin­ished with nine catches for 127 yards and three touch­downs for the Colonels

Women’s soc­cer

Kait­lyn Koz­dron scored two goals to lead Cedar Crest Col­lege to a 3-0 win over Clarks Sum­mit Uni­ver­sity.

Avery Hus­ton also scored for the Fal­cons, who out­shot Clarks Sum­mit, 29-4. Lau­ryn Brown had eight saves for the Lady De­fend­ers (4-6).

Women’s vol­ley­ball

The Uni­ver­sity of Scran­ton earned a pair of 3-2 wins over Stevens and Stock­ton at the Stevens In­vi­ta­tional. Kristin Kir­wan had 20 kills and 12 digs for Scran­ton (1612) against Stevens and Kindler Nor­man had 40 as­sists. Against Stock­ton, Me­gan Monas­tra had nine kills and 12 digs for Scran­ton and Kyra Beve­nour had 52 as­sists and 15 digs.

Women’s ten­nis

Scran­ton Prep grad­u­ate Emilia Jakubek and Dun­more grad­u­ate Nas­tashia De­nun­zio each had two wins to lead the Uni­ver­sity of Scran­ton to an 8-1 win over Le­banon Val­ley.

Marissa Campo, Wal­len­pau­pack grad­u­ate Kris­ten Den­nis­ton and Stephanie Hoff­man all had sin­gles wins for the Roy­als, who fin­ished 3-0 in the fall por­tion of their sched­ule.

Men’s Cross Coun­try

For­est City grad­u­ate Justin Wolfe fin­ished 16th over­all for Lack­awanna Col­lege at the Mon­roe Mus­tang Invi- tational. Wolfe fin­ished the 8K race in 34:50.1 and Western Wayne grad­u­ate Peter To­masetti was 23rd in 36:10.8.

Women’s Cross Coun­try

Emily Carr fin­ished 18th over­all for Lack­awanna Col­lege at the Mon­roe Mus­tang In­vi­ta­tional. Carr fin­ished the 5K race in 25:39.6, Molly Palmer was 24th in 29:53.4 and Hones­dale grad­u­ate Brooke Ruther­ford was 27th in 32:05.1.
