Robbinsvil­le reaches 5th World Series

BRISTOL, CONN. >> The Robbinsvil­le Little League 12-year-old All-Stars completed a 4-0 sweep through the East Regional with a 12-1 victory over Canal Little League of Delaware in Thursday’s championsh­ip round at Breen Field.

Robbinsvil­le, 14-1 this summer since beginning the District 12 Tournament, will head to its fifth Little League World Series in Portland, Oregon. Robbinsvil­le won the World Series in 2014.

Brynn Hopkins was solid again for Robbinsvil­le on the mound Thursday, holding Delaware to four hits while striking out two over four innings.

Hopkins also excelled at the plate, batting 2-for-3 with four RBI and a run scored. She doubled in the first and second innings.

Kenzie Martin collected a team-high three hits along with one RBI, while seven other Robbinsvil­le batters including Hopkins also drove in runs.

Robbinsvil­le jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning thanks to Hopkins’ Robbinsvil­le softball, which won the New Jersey state title earlier this month, has advanced to its fifth Little League World Series.

beat Delaware to advance to the title round on Tuesday, 10-0. The Mercer County kids opened the East Regional with a 6-5 comeback win over George J. Hummel of Connecticu­t,

then proceeded to beat Sayville of New York, 6-1.

Robbinsvil­le begins World Series play Aug. 11 against Europe-Africa in Game 8 at Alpenrose Stadium.
