Joseph J. (Scuzz) Bernhardt, 69, of Eastampton Township died Monday at the Community Medical Center in Toms River.

Born in Trenton, he lived most of his life here until moving to Mount Holly in 1989. He was employed with the State of New Jersey Department of Transporta­tion as Landscape Supervisor for the Jersey roads and highways for 35 years before retiring in 2010. He enjoyed his faithful companions Lucy and Homer. He was an avid Harley Davidson Motorcycle enthusiast. He enjoyed taking trips up and down the East Coast.

Scuzz liked to make people happy and laugh, he also enjoyed playing practical jokes on people which no one was exempt from his antics that he played on everyone, family included. He enjoyed being a saltwater fisherman and recently bought his boat to go fishing off the waters of Long Beach Island.

Son of the late Joseph J. Sr. and Blanche A. Strycharz Bernhardt.

Surviving is his loving wife Linda A Plantier Bernhardt of Mount Holly; four sisters and one brother-in-law Judy Bernhardt of Vineland, Joann M. & Larry Ostrowski of Hamilton Square, Agnes Bernhardt-Mills of Ewing Township and Maria Bernhardt of Franklin Tennessee; as well as several nieces, nephews, grandniece­s, grandnephe­ws.

Funeral will be held Monday morning August 29, at 10:30 a.m. from the Winowicz Funeral Chapel, 865 Brunswick Avenue, North Trenton. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Monday at 11 a.m. from St. Hedwig’s Roman Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Hedwigs Cemetery Ewing Township. Calling hours will be, from 3:30 to 6 p.m., Sunday, August 28 and again Monday August 29, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., at the funeral chapel.
