Amazon hours

The Trentonian (Trenton, NJ) - - OPINION -

I like to know if you can check on this. I have a relative that works at the Amazon plant in Florence. She works the day shift from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday. When she goes into work they only let her work an hour or so and some days they just send her home right away. I don’t understand how they can get away with doing that. Now her insurance is running out because she does not have enough hours they are making her get on the COBRA program. They hired a whole bunch of people but apparently the day shift, just come in and go home early. Sometimes they just tell them not to come in at all. They don’t give them hours but they hired them for full time work. Can you please look into it? — A reader

That’s a common practice in retail stores, it’s legal, but not really great for the employees. It does cause a lot of people to quit to find a job with more hours, so maybe they are trying to reduce the work force without the bad PR of doing layoffs. — Ed Note
