Sunnybrae trying to keep it simple
When Sunnybrae Little League manager Glen Dittes sizes up the District 12 Tournament field, he sees an opportunity for his boys to breakthrough for the first time.
According to Dittes, the recipe is simple.
“Make the plays you’re supposed to make and hit the ball,” he said.
He believes his Sunnies are equipped to do.
“There’s a good mix of solid contact hitters and guys who hit for power,” Dittes said. “It’s a huge deal to have some power. It’s how you set your lineup to have speed in front of power.”
Sunnybrae begins its tournament on Friday night against West End in a game scheduled for the West Windsor Little League Complex. The winner of that clash gets either Robbinsville, Cranbury-Plainsboro or West Windsor in a winners’ bracket semifinal.
Dittes thinks he’s got to big arms at the top of the rotation that can eat the bulk of the innings. After that, the pitching is still developing.
One thing that won’t be missing is team chemistry.
“These guys have been together for five or six years,” Dittes said. “A part of each practice, I make sure we leave them all by themselves to hang out and talk to each other while the coaches do something else.”
