Girl Boy Scouts

The Trentonian (Trenton, NJ) - - OPINION -

They’re saying now that the Boy Scouts have to accept a girl as a member of the Boy Scouts. What is wrong with this country with all this PC Correctness? Some things as simple as black and white. I’m all for equal rights for women to be in battlefield, if you can shoot a gun you and defend your country stand up for your nation. I’m a hundred percent with it. But a boy shouldn’t join the Girl Scouts cuz that he’s not a girl, or a girl shouldn’t join the Boy Scouts cuz she’s not a boy. What’s going on in this country? Are these people out of their mind with this politically correctness?

I’m no expert on this, but the way I understand it is that no one pressured or forced the Boy Scouts, this was their attempt to create more inclusive programs (also read: expand membership). Not all Boy Scout troops are going to have girls in them, but the BSA is trying to open things up so that girls can earn Eagle Scout rank, which is a highly coveted honor. When you look at the declining participation numbers for scouting, you can figure out what the real reasons are for BSA to try to be more inclusive.
