BSP falls to losers’ bracket in Mid-Atlantic Regional
PURCELLVILLE, VA. » After beginning the American Legion Mid-Atlantic Regional with two consecutive wins, Broad Street Park was unable to come up with late-inning magic Friday night.
Post 313 dropped a tight 2-1 game against Wilmington Post 1 (Del.), which means the Hamiltonbased team is on the brink of elimination Saturday.
BSP will take on Leesburg Post 34 (Va.) in the losers’ bracket at 1 p.m. Only four teams remain in the field.
Adam Drosos pitched all six innings for BSP, striking out three while walking two and allowing eight hits.
But Wilmington’s JT Tomovich won the duel by allowing only one run on three hits and nearly going the distance. Jacques Dubecq recorded the final out after Mason Fitzpatrick was hit by a pitch.
Shane Hoffman entered as a pinchrunner and stole second base to move the tying run into scoring position for BSP, but the rally came up short.
After four scoreless innings, Wilmington struck first in the bottom of the fifth. Jon Golebiowski drove in Marshall Awtry with a one-out double, but Drosos recorded a strikeout and groundout to escape further damage.
BSP tied the game in the top of the sixth when Darius Land belted a solo home run. But Wilmington produced a long ball of its own in the bottom half as Dubecq launched a solo shot to regain the lead for the Delaware team.
Fitzpatrick and Sean Elefant both recorded singles for BSP.
Wilmington, the only undefeated team left, will take on Souderton Post 234 (Pa.) Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
