Elected officials are role models
To the Editor:
The July 8 Union Democrat captured a simultaneous swearing in to uphold the Constitution, the laws of California, and a violation of the oath of office at the very same moment. Good screen catch Alex Maclean. Mark Plummer stands there, unmasked, doing just that.
For the reactive deniers — if you need a medical accommodation, get one from your doctor and call ahead to be accommodated. If that were the case here, an elected official can arrange to be sworn in without the camera and colleagues in private. That way they are not potentially exposed, and the laws of accommodation are followed.
Further, if you are in the actual group of people with medical exceptions, call ahead to a business and arrange for someone else to do the pickup, or do curbside pickup.
It is a shame that so many people are willing to lie to avoid wearing a mask because this just makes it harder for those of you who do have a medical condition. (Not implying that is the case in this image, I am implying that a lot of people in stores are lying.)
