Thank you, UD

To the Editor:

We are fortunate in Tuolumne and Calaveras counties to have The Union Democrat and its dedicated staff and circulation personnel. We can get national news many places, but it is the local articles that are so important.

Recently there have been great front page articles by Alex Maclean and Guy Mccarthy. On July 8, Alex had two: One about Tuolumne County getting COVID-19 funding. The other was about Judge Donald Segerstrom swearing in City Council members Matt Hawkins, Mark Plummer, and Ann Segerstrom, plus the election of Sonora City Council officers, including Matt Hawkins as mayor.

And, Guy Mccarthy had two brilliantly written local articles. One is about a super local boy to watch: Tate Arthur Crook, of Rockin' AK ranch fame.

At just 11 years old, he has raised, cut, and packaged his steer beef for retail sale. Courtesy of Kendra Brown, his beef is for sale in the Historic Sugg House, across from the downtown Saturday morning Sonora Farmers Market.

Guy's other well-written story is that Matt and Christin Foust will soon open the Columbia Frosty. This is fantastic news for those who need food and refreshments on those hot days, and a warm-up hot chocolate or coffee in the winter.

And, in the weekend edition, Maggie Beck had a great article mentioning Veteran Frank Smart and the new 9/11 Global War on Terrorism Memorial at the Tuolumne Veterans Hall

And, this letter would not be complete without mentioning the strong Calaveras county coverage. And the editor Lyn Riddle keeping us up to date on COVID-19 caused event changes.

Hopefully we can get back to “normal.” And, I appreciate the circulation department. As a young boy, I had a paper route for four years. I now appreciate being on the receiving end of good service.
