The Washington Post Sunday - - Metro Week - By Clarence Williams and Martin Weil

Two men were shot and killed last night in Prince George’s County — one by would-be robbers and the other after an argument at a baby shower, county police said.

In the first killing, which occurred about 5 p.m. in the Hyattsville area, two robbers confronted a man at a bus stop on New Hampshire Avenue at Lebanon Street. The robbers demanded jewelry, and when the man did not comply, one of the robbers shot him.

The victim, who was not identified immediately, was hit in the upper body. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

The second killing occurred about two hours later, near the Woodlawn Recreation Center at Greenvale Parkway and Glenoak Road in the Landover Hills area.

About 50 people were attending a shower at the center when an argument broke out between two men, police said. They said the argument turned into a fight, which took place in the center’s parking lot.

Police said one man was hit in the chest and died shortly afterward at a hospital. A woman was shot in the leg in the incident, police said.

Police said they believed that the victims and the assailant had attended the shower.
