Pr. George’s Decides to Fund Hospital
After rejecting a state deal, the Prince George’s County Council agreed to provide the money needed to keep the county’s troubled hospital system afloat for 15 more months.
The move could cost the county tens of millions of dollars over the next year but will stave off a financial crisis for the system, which serves more than 180,000 people a year at its three hospitals and two nursing homes. It also buys county officials time to negotiate with the state on a long-term plan to fix the problems at Prince George’s Hospital Center in Cheverly and the other facilities.
