Courage on Gun Control
It is about time that one or more of the presidential candidates came out in favor of stringent new measures to control handguns in the United States. Following the lead of Britain [“Britain’s Gun Laws Seen as Curbing Attacks,” World News, April 24], where the government acted after a mass shooting at a Scottish primary school in 1996, our government needs to act.
Of course, candidates who would come out for gun control would lose the support of the National Rifle Association and its powerful lobby, but they would gain support of most voters. DAVID W. SAXTON
