Man killed af­ter car crashes on Belt­way

A 30-year-old Vir­ginia man was killed on the Cap­i­tal Belt­way Satur­day morn­ing when he lost con­trol of his car, which over­turned and hit a light pole, ac­cord­ing to the Mary­land State Po­lice.

Po­lice say Davon Michael Cruz of Fair­fax was south­bound on In­ter­state 95 near the exit for Pow­der Mill Road in Beltsville about 8 a.m. when he lost con­trol of his 2005 Nis­san Max­ima and trav­eled off the left side of the road. A dozen fire­fight­ers and paramedics tried to res­cue Cruz, who was trapped in the wreck­age, ac­cord­ing to the Prince Ge­orge’s fire depart­ment. Cruz was pro­nounced dead at the scene.

Po­lice say al­co­hol and drugs did not ap­pear to have con­trib­uted to the crash.
