John R. Car­son

John R. Car­son, 72, di­rec­tor of gov­ern­men­tal af­fairs for what is nowthe Amer­i­canPo­di­atricMed­i­cal As­so­ci­a­tion, died Dec. 24 at Washington County Hos­pi­tal in Hager­stown, Md., of com­pli­ca­tions from ul­cer surgery.

Mr. Car­son­worked­for the as­so­ci­a­tion from 1969 un­til he re­tired in the late 1990s.

He was born John Robert Car­son in St. Joseph, Mo., and grad­u­ated from what is now known as Mid­land Uni­ver­sity in Fre­mont, Neb., in 1956. He re­ceived a mas­ter’s de­gree in po­lit­i­cal sci­ence from Drake Uni­ver­sity in Des Moines in 1958.

He moved to the Washington re­gion in 1969 and had been a Hager­stown res­i­dent since 2002.

He was a mem­ber of the Ex­change Club ofHager­stown.

His wife of 50 years, Janet Petersen Car­son, died in 2007.

Sur­vivors in­clude two chil­dren, John W. Car­son of Hager­stown and Paul Car­son of Manas­sas; a sis­ter; two grand­daugh­ters.
