Marianne Robinson, 29, is an equestrian. Albert Pingree, 29, is an environmental curriculum coordinator. They live in the District.

Wedding date: Nov. 13.

Location: The Goodstone Inn, Middleburg.

Guests: 230.

How they met: Marianne and Albert met as 5-year-olds while riding the school bus to kindergarten. A strong friendship continued through the years until they began dating in 2005.

The proposal: After one of Marianne’s horse competitions in spring 2009, Albert surprised Marianne with a night’s stay at Middleburg’s Goodstone Inn and asked her to marry him at sunset.

The wedding: For their fall wedding, Marianne and Albert planned a low-key romantic affair featuring the colors of the sunset. They created various “scenes” at their outdoor reception with separate tents for cocktails, dinner and dancing. Their laid-back first dance was to a reggae tune by Bob Marley.

The honeymoon: The couple took a three-day trip to Pennsylvania’s Nemacolin Woodlands Resort. They plan to take a more extensive vacation to Tahiti in April.
