Camp time: ISO young thespians
TheTraveling Players Ensemble, a nonprofit professional theater company based in Great Falls, has opened registration for its 2011 Summer Theatre Camp at theMadeira School inMcLean.
Two four-week sessions are open to youths who will be in sixth through 12th grade in the fall. The students work with professionals for three weeks, building towardafinalperformance. Thedaycamp begins June 20 and runs through Aug. 29.
Three one-week intensive sessions are offered in improv for middle-and highschoolers, and stage combat training is provided for middle-school students only.
Also offered: The Traveling Troupe, a seven-week program for rising sophomores, juniorsandseniorsfromJune20to Aug. 6; acceptance will be determined by auditions Jan. 17 and Feb. 21. The program’s players will perform a full-length production of “Romeo and Juliet” at regional venues. The students will participate in day camp for the first five weeks, then perform the play during two weeks of touring.
TheCommediaTroupe, July 18-Aug. 19, is open to rising freshmen and all other high school students. It is a five-week program that explores the style of Commedia dell’Arte, with students creating an original play. Daycampis held for the first four weeks, with oneweekof touring. This year’s production will be basedonthe epic poem “Beowulf.” Auditions will be held Jan. 22 and Feb. 26.
Daily transportation, included in tuition, is provided for campers at stops on four bus routes. Attendance is $2,000 for the four-week middle school program; high school ensemble is $2,050; one-week programs are all $495; Comedia Troupe is $2,900; Traveling Troupe is $4,250.
