Three killed in clashes in So­mali cap­i­tal:

At least three civil­ians were killed af­ter be­ing caught in clashes be­tween in­sur­gents and the army in So­ma­lia’s cap­i­tal, Mo­gadishu, a med­i­cal of­fi­cial said, adding that 12 other peo­ple were wounded by stray bul­lets. Mo­gadishu res­i­dents en­dure fre­quent bar­rages of mor­tar and rocket fire dur­ing fight­ing be­tween in­sur­gents— in­clud­ing al-Shabab, the coun­try’s most pow­er­ful mil­i­tant group — and govern­ment forces.

Haiti to re­lease elec­tion re­sults, sets runoff date:

Haiti’s elec­toral au­thor­i­ties will re­lease re­sults Wed­nes­day from the dis­puted pres­i­den­tial elec­tion, and they set March 20 as the date for a runoff vote in signs that a pro­tracted elec­toral im­passe may be eas­ing. Po­lit­i­cal un­cer­tainty has gripped the im­pov­er­ished coun­try since a chaotic Nov. 28 vote marred by fraud al­le­ga­tions and street protests.

Two es­cape hi­jacked ves­sel:

Two hostages have es­caped a Ger­man cargo ship cap­tured by So­mali pi­rates off the Sey­chelles and are aboard a Dan­ish navy ves­sel, the ship’s own­ers said. The ship was boarded Jan. 22 far from the ar­eas where pi­rates mainly op­er­ate.
