Elaine Hutchinson, 94, a vol­un­teer for the Amer­i­can Red Cross, Meals on Wheels and the Board of Child Care of the United Methodist Church, died of vas­cu­lar dis­ease Jan. 13 at Rider­wood Vil­lage re­tire­ment com­mu­nity in Sil­ver Spring.

Mrs. Hutchinson moved to Rider­wood Vil­lage from Col­lege Park about 10 years ago. She was a past mem­ber of Uni­ver­sity United Methodist Church in Col­lege Park, where she sang in the choir, taught Sun­day school and at­tended Bi­ble study group. In re­cent years, she at­tended Rider­wood Vil­lage Church.

Elaine Es­sex was born in Washington and grew up in Chevy Chase. She grad­u­ated in 1933 from Western High School and then spent sev­eral years as an ex­ec­u­tive as­sis­tant with the Army Depart­ment.

Her hus­band of 50 years, J. Ed­win Hutchinson, died in 1998.

Sur­vivors in­clude two sons, Bruce Hutchinson of Sil­ver Spring and Ken­neth Hutchinson of Glen­wood; two sis­ters, her iden­ti­cal twin, Lil­lian Chap­man of Me­dia, Pa., and Vivien Mitchell of Chevy Chase; five grand­chil­dren; and eight great-grand­chil­dren.
