Eve­lyn Routt, 98, who did sec­re­tar­ial work in the 1930s for the D.C. In­surance Depart­ment, died of res­pi­ra­tory fail­ure Jan. 11 at a nurs­ing home in Nags Head, N.C.

Mrs. Routt moved to Man­teo, N.C., from Sil­ver Spring about 10 years ago.

Eve­lyn Wylie, a na­tive Wash­ing­to­nian, was a 1928 grad­u­ate of the old Busi­ness High School and a 1929 grad­u­ate of Strayer Busi­ness Col­lege.

Her first mar­riage, to James R. Burke Sr., ended in divorce. She was then mar­ried for 52 years to Ran­dolph J. Routt, a pho­tog­ra­pher for the old Washington Star, un­til his death in 1993.

Sur­vivors in­clude a son from her first mar­riage, James R. Burke Jr. of Cary, N.C.; a daugh­ter from her sec­ond mar­riage, Mar­jorie R. Perez of Man­teo; three grand­chil­dren; and seven great-grand­chil­dren.
