Huskies cruise to 59th straight Big East win

Maya Moore scored 23 points to help vis­it­ing No. 2 Con­necti­cut to an easy 80-46 vic­tory over out­manned Cincin­nati on Satur­day.

Tif­fany Hayes added 16 points for Con­necti­cut (20-1, 9-0 Big East) which won for the eighth straight time since hav­ing its 90-game win streak snapped in a loss to Stan­ford on Dec. 30.

Moore fin­ished 11-for-14 shoot­ing and had six as­sists for the Huskies, who have won 59 straight games against Big East op­po­nents.

Cincin­nati (8-12, 1-7) had just seven avail­able play­ers be­cause of in­jury. The Bearcats were led by Kayla Cook’s 13 points.

STAN­FORD 74, ORE­GON STATE 44: Kayla Ped­er­sen scored a sea­son-high 21 points and Jeanette Pohlen added 15 points to lead the No. 4 Car­di­nal past the Beavers in Cor­val­lis, Ore.

Stan­ford (18-2, 9-0 Pa­cific10) tied a sea­son-high for three­p­oint­ers with 11.

Earlysia March­banks had a ca­reer-high 19 points and six re­bounds for Ore­gon State (7-13, 0-9).

XAVIER 67, RHODE IS­LAND 45: Ta’Shia Phillips had 12 points and 15 re­bounds and Am­ber Har­ris scored 10 of her 16 points in the sec­ond half, help­ing the No. 7 Mus­ke­teers (17-2, 6-0 At­lantic 10) pull away from the Rams (6-14, 0-6).

Xavier com­pleted its third straight per­fect Jan­uary, go­ing 7-0 with an­other fast start to league play. The Mus­ke­teers broke the game open at the start of the sec­ond half by forc­ing turnovers and fol­low­ing Har­ris’s lead.

NOTRE DAME 58, VIL­LANOVA 43: Dev­ereaux Peters scored 20 points to lead the No. 9 Fight­ing Ir­ish (18-4, 7-1 Big East) to a vic­tory over the host Wild­cats (8-12, 0-7).

Sky­lar Dig­gins added 13 points and Natalie Novosel had 11 for Notre Dame, which has won five straight and 13 of its last 14.

UCLA 70, ARI­ZONA 60: Jas­mine Dixon had a sea­sonbest 22 points, hit­ting 11 of 12 shots, to help the host No. 11 Bru­ins (18-2, 8-1 Pac-10) beat the Wild­cats (13-7, 4-5).

Atonye Nyingifa col­lected a ca­reer-high 12 re­bounds to go with 11 points, while Darxia Mor­ris scored 13 for the Bru­ins.

OK­LA­HOMA 82, OK­LA­HOMA STATE 77: Aaryn El­len­berg scored 23 points in her Bed­lam ri­valry de­but and Danielle Robin­son added 20 points and seven as­sists as the No. 13 Sooners beat the Cowgirls for their sev­enth straight win in the se­ries.

El­len­berg put the Sooners (16-4, 6-1 Big 12) ahead to stay with a jumper from the right el­bow with 5:11 to play, Robin­son fol­lowed with a left-handed bas­ket in the lane to make it 76-72 and Ok­la­homa held on with free throws the rest of the way.

Vicky McIn­tyre scored 16 points to lead the host Cowgirls (13-6, 1-5).

WIS­CON­SIN-GREEN BAY 69, VAL­PARAISO 50: Ce­leste Hoewisch scored 17 points and Kayla Tetschlag added 14 to lead the No. 22 Phoenix (20-1, 9-0 Hori­zon League) to a vic­tory over the Cru­saders (4-17, 1-8) in Val­paraiso, Ind.

Tetschlag also had seven re­bounds and three steals for the Phoenix , who won their 11th straight. Julie Wo­jta added 14 points and Ly­dia Bauer had 12, hit­ting four three-point­ers.

IOWA STATE 71, MIS­SOURI 56: Fresh­man Hal­lie Christof­fer­son scored 18 points and Chelsea Pop­pens added 12 points and a ca­reer-high 19 re­bounds, lead­ing the No. 23 Cy­clones past the vis­it­ing Tigers (10-11, 2-5 Big 12).

Lau­ren Mans­field con­trib­uted 14 points in a bal­anced of­fen­sive game that en­abled Iowa State (15-5, 3-3) to sur­vive a rare stretch of cold shoot­ing by lead­ing scorer Kelsey Bolte.
