Huskies cruise to 59th straight Big East win
Maya Moore scored 23 points to help visiting No. 2 Connecticut to an easy 80-46 victory over outmanned Cincinnati on Saturday.
Tiffany Hayes added 16 points for Connecticut (20-1, 9-0 Big East) which won for the eighth straight time since having its 90-game win streak snapped in a loss to Stanford on Dec. 30.
Moore finished 11-for-14 shooting and had six assists for the Huskies, who have won 59 straight games against Big East opponents.
Cincinnati (8-12, 1-7) had just seven available players because of injury. The Bearcats were led by Kayla Cook’s 13 points.
STANFORD 74, OREGON STATE 44: Kayla Pedersen scored a season-high 21 points and Jeanette Pohlen added 15 points to lead the No. 4 Cardinal past the Beavers in Corvallis, Ore.
Stanford (18-2, 9-0 Pacific10) tied a season-high for threepointers with 11.
Earlysia Marchbanks had a career-high 19 points and six rebounds for Oregon State (7-13, 0-9).
XAVIER 67, RHODE ISLAND 45: Ta’Shia Phillips had 12 points and 15 rebounds and Amber Harris scored 10 of her 16 points in the second half, helping the No. 7 Musketeers (17-2, 6-0 Atlantic 10) pull away from the Rams (6-14, 0-6).
Xavier completed its third straight perfect January, going 7-0 with another fast start to league play. The Musketeers broke the game open at the start of the second half by forcing turnovers and following Harris’s lead.
NOTRE DAME 58, VILLANOVA 43: Devereaux Peters scored 20 points to lead the No. 9 Fighting Irish (18-4, 7-1 Big East) to a victory over the host Wildcats (8-12, 0-7).
Skylar Diggins added 13 points and Natalie Novosel had 11 for Notre Dame, which has won five straight and 13 of its last 14.
UCLA 70, ARIZONA 60: Jasmine Dixon had a seasonbest 22 points, hitting 11 of 12 shots, to help the host No. 11 Bruins (18-2, 8-1 Pac-10) beat the Wildcats (13-7, 4-5).
Atonye Nyingifa collected a career-high 12 rebounds to go with 11 points, while Darxia Morris scored 13 for the Bruins.
OKLAHOMA 82, OKLAHOMA STATE 77: Aaryn Ellenberg scored 23 points in her Bedlam rivalry debut and Danielle Robinson added 20 points and seven assists as the No. 13 Sooners beat the Cowgirls for their seventh straight win in the series.
Ellenberg put the Sooners (16-4, 6-1 Big 12) ahead to stay with a jumper from the right elbow with 5:11 to play, Robinson followed with a left-handed basket in the lane to make it 76-72 and Oklahoma held on with free throws the rest of the way.
Vicky McIntyre scored 16 points to lead the host Cowgirls (13-6, 1-5).
WISCONSIN-GREEN BAY 69, VALPARAISO 50: Celeste Hoewisch scored 17 points and Kayla Tetschlag added 14 to lead the No. 22 Phoenix (20-1, 9-0 Horizon League) to a victory over the Crusaders (4-17, 1-8) in Valparaiso, Ind.
Tetschlag also had seven rebounds and three steals for the Phoenix , who won their 11th straight. Julie Wojta added 14 points and Lydia Bauer had 12, hitting four three-pointers.
IOWA STATE 71, MISSOURI 56: Freshman Hallie Christofferson scored 18 points and Chelsea Poppens added 12 points and a career-high 19 rebounds, leading the No. 23 Cyclones past the visiting Tigers (10-11, 2-5 Big 12).
Lauren Mansfield contributed 14 points in a balanced offensive game that enabled Iowa State (15-5, 3-3) to survive a rare stretch of cold shooting by leading scorer Kelsey Bolte.
MayaMoore scored 23 points to help Connecticut win its eighth consecutive game.
