Schoof’s three-pointers pace Eagles
John Schoof scored 24 points and Stephen Lumpkins recorded his 10th double-double of the season as American defeated Colgate, 70-55, on Saturday at Bender Arena.
Schoof entered as a 50 percent three-point shooter. He hit 5 of 8 from long range and has at least one three-pointer in seven consecutive games for the Eagles (9-14, 4-4 Patriot League).
Lumpkins scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Daniel Munoz hit 9 of 10 free throws and scored 13 points while Tony Wroblicky had 11 points and nine rebounds.
Brandon James paced the Raiders (9-16, 3-5) with 18 points off the bench.
Colgate took a 26-25 lead shortly after halftime and the game was tied at 36 with 13 minutes left.
Wroblicky snapped that tie with a jumper to spark a 16-2 run that included two three-pointers and a layup from Schoof.
HOWARD 63, MARYLAND EASTERN-SHORE 44: Mike Phillips scored 21 points and Tre Lee added 18 for the Bison (6-18, 3-7 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) at home.
Howard forced the Hawks (1-18, 1-7) into 26.7 percent shooting (16 for 60). The Hawks also made 9 of 16 free throws.
LAFAYETTE 70, NAVY 47: The visiting Leopards (12-13, 5-3 Patriot League) led by at least 20 points for most of the second half against the Midshipmen (7-17, 1-7). Worth Smith was the only Navy player to score in double figures, finishing with 13 points. Hoyas women fall
Briana Brown made two threepointers in overtime as St. John’s defeated Georgetown, 76-72, in a Big East women’s game in Queens. The game was tied at 65 following a basket by Shenneika Smith, off an assist from Brown, with 18 seconds left in regulation.
The Hoyas (13-10, 4-6) missed a potential winning shot with one second left in regulation.
Sugar Rodgers finished with 29 points and six rebounds for Georgetown. Dominique Vitalis added 21 points and 11 rebounds.
Smith finished with 26 points for the Red Storm (11-10, 5-4).
The game began later than scheduled because of heavy snow.
NAVY 60, LAFAYETTE 52: Jade Geif had seven points, two rebounds and a steal in overtime as the Midshipmen (14-9, 7-1) won on the road. The first half was a defensive struggle: Navy made 6 of 26 shots (23 percent) but held the Leopards to 10 for 32 (31 percent).
Emily Holman had 12 points for Lafayette (10-13, 3-5).
AMERICAN 69, COLGATE 44: Three Eagles scored in double figures in the road win. Stephanie Anya posted a game-high 14 points; Geleisa George and Arron Zimmerman matched their career marks with 13 apiece.
The victory put Coach Matt Corkery one win from 100 for his career. Should the Eagles (13-9, 6-2 Patriot League) win against Lehigh on Wednesday, he will become the fastest coach in conference history to reach the mark.
Reserve Josie Stockill had 10 points for the Raiders (6-17, 0-8).
HOWARD 59, MARYLANDEASTERN SHORE 30: Cheyenne Curley-Payne had 17 points and seven rebounds as the Lady Bison (13-9, 7-3 MEAC) won at home. Jameelah Pickard had six points for the Hawks (6-13, 2-6).
Howard held UMES to 19 percent shooting (9 for 47).
