Griner leads No. 1 Bay­lor past Texas

Brit­tney Griner scored 30 points to spark No. 1 Bay­lor to an easy 67-47 vic­tory over vis­it­ing Texas on Satur­day.

Griner outscored the Longhorns by her­self in the first half, pour­ing in 20 of the Lady Bears’ 30 points. She fin­ished with 11 re­bounds and five blocks.

Bay­lor (26-1, 15-0 Big 12) fin­ished the first half with an 11-2 run for a 30-16 lead in its 24th con­sec­u­tive vic­tory. The Lady Bears ex­tended a pair of record streaks to 54 straight home wins and 37 in a row in con­fer­ence. All three streaks are the long­est in the na­tion.

Chas­sidy Fus­sell led Texas (10-16, 3-12) with 16 points.

CON­NECTI­CUT 90, SE­TON HALL 30: Kelly Faris and Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis each scored 18 points to help the No. 3 Huskies pum­mel the Pi­rates in Storrs, Conn.

The pair also both reached the 1,000-point plateau for their ca­reers.

Con­necti­cut (25-2, 12-1 Big East) earned its 400th Big East win un­der Coach Geno Auriemma. The win was the 29th straight for the Huskies over Se­ton Hall (9-18, 4-10).

ST. JOHN’S 61, RUT­GERS 48: In New York, Nadi­rah McKenith scored 21 points for the Red Storm (15-10, 9-4 Big East), which kept Scar­let Knights Coach C. Vi­vian Stringer from her 900th ca­reer win. Rut­gers (14-12, 5-8) has lost four in a row and is in dan­ger of miss­ing the NCAA tour­na­ment for the first time in 11 sea­sons.
