Male is injured in Northwest shooting

The Washington Post Sunday - - COMMUTER - — Martin Weil

It was 3:30 a.m. Saturday, in the heart of the Adams Morgan neighborhood, on one of the most vibrant sections of pavement in the District, when gunfire broke out.

The location was 17th Street and Columbia Road NW, a stone’s throw from apartment houses and restaurants, from an embassy and from businesses of all sorts.

In the terse account available from the D.C. police, one person walked up to another “and shot him.” No motive was given.

Both people in the encounter were described as male. The victim was taken to a hospital with wounds that as of Saturday, according to police, did not appear to threaten his life.

Police asked anyone with information to call them.

Compared with last weekend, during which at least 10 people were shot and 10 stabbed in the District, the number of violent incidents Friday night and Saturday appeared to be considerably smaller.

However, at least two other shootings and two stabbings were reported; the most recent shooting was Saturday evening in the 2300 block of 15th Street NE, and the latest stabbing in the 2900 block of Southern Avenue SE, also Saturday evening.

The victims’ conditions were not given.
