Workers including Ralston Cox, with sledgehammer, join a volunteer crew to help demolish a food court under Dupont Circle. Opened in 1949 as a trolley station, some 75,000 square feet of platforms and tunnels were closed in late 1961, after the District’s streetcar system shut down. A group intends to turn the space into Dupont Underground, an exhibition space for artistic endeavors including galleries and films.
