Milton John Gaines, engi­neer

Milton John Gaines, 82, an engi­neer, soft­ware and in­for­ma­tion tech­nol­ogy spe­cial­ist, died June 11 at a nurs­ing home in Rockville, Md. The cause was can­cer, said a son, Steven Gaines.

Mr. Gaines, a res­i­dent of Ger­man­town, Md., was born in New York City. Early in his ca­reer, he was an air­craft de­signer with Boe­ing in Los An­ge­les and a NASA aerospace engi­neer. In the 1970s, he be­gan a ca­reer in com­puter soft­ware and in­for­ma­tion tech­nol­ogy, work­ing for Wash­ing­tonarea com­pa­nies. He spent about a decade with Elec­tronic Data Sys­tems in Washington be­fore he re­tired in 2000.
