Blue Jays: Two-time Cy Young Award win­ner Jo­han San­tana has aban­doned his come­back bid. Gen­eral Man­ager Alex An­thopou­los said a toe in­fec­tion was the pri­mary fac­tor in San­tana’s de­ci­sion. He said San­tana plans on pitch­ing win­ter ball.

Mariners: 2B Robin­son Cano was hit in the head by a stray ball while the An­gels were warm­ing up in be­tween in­nings and left the game be­cause of dizzi­ness.

Mar­lins: RF Gian­carlo Stan­ton has a bro­ken left hand ex­pected to side­line him four to six weeks.

Pi­rates: CF An­drew McCutchen left Satur­day’s game af­ter get­ting hit in the left el­bow with a pitch. Xrays were neg­a­tive, and he will be reeval­u­ated Sun­day.

WASHED­AWAY

In ad­di­tion to the rain­outs in Philadelphia and Bal­ti­more, the White Sox-Tigers game in Detroit was washed out and the Reds-Mets game in New York was sus­pended with the score tied at 1 in the sev­enth in­ning.

Chicago and Detroit will play a split dou­ble­header on Sept. 21. Cincinnati and New York will re­sume at 1:10 on Sun­day be­fore their regularly sched­uled game.
