Lopez’s rings of honor

The Washington Post Sunday - - SPORTS - — Chelsea Janes and James Wagner

When Derek Jeter retired after last season, he passed a notable title to Giants reliever Javier Lopez, who grewup in Fairfax, attended Robinson Secondary and played college baseball at the University of Virginia. Lopez leads all active major league players with World Series rings.

“Thanks, Jeter,” Lopez said with a laugh.

Lopez has four rings. The 37year-old won one with the Red Sox in 2007 and then three in five seasons— 2010, 2012 and 2014— with the Giants. Lopez didn’t appear in the 2012World Series, though he appeared in the two previous playoff rounds that season.

“I think about it every once in a while,” the left-hander said. “It’s funny because in this clubhouse there are a lot of guys with three rings and knowing how hard it is to get there and have that success. . . . It’s something that when I’m done I’ll definitely look back and think it’s really good.”
