Suu Kyi says party will com­pete in elec­tion:

The Burmese op­po­si­tion party led b y No­bel lau­re­ate Aung San Suu Kyi an­nounced that it will com­pete in the Nov. 8 gen­eral elec­tion de­spite mis­giv­ings about trans­parency in an ef­fort to chal­lenge the rul­ing mil­i­tary-backed party. Suu Kyi is still un­able to run for pres­i­dent af­ter law­mak­ers turned down ef­forts to amend the con­sti­tu­tion.
